What is with all the Ichiro love? Is it all just 3000 hits?
Don't get me wrong, he was a great player and a certain Hall of Famer, but his career OPS+ is 107 as a career RF. This is not a man that should get into the HoF based on his hitting. He's going to without doubt, but I'm not sure he should coast in so easily. He's nowhere near the player Carlos Beltran was. What gives Ichiro the right to just coast in while Carlos Beltran sits there?
Once again, I will make clear that I am not anti-Ichiro. I would not vote for him, because the system incentivizes strategic voting. Every vote above 75% is wasted, and he's one that doesn't need the vote. Carlos Beltran does, despite being a much better player over the length of a career than Ichiro. It's just another weird bit of Hall of Fame inconsistency that seems so pervasive in this sport.
